Get to Know the Rescue Race Runners Up: Ginger’s Pet Rescue, Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida, Jelly’s Place, and AlleyKattz Rescue
In November 2018, the Healthy Paws Foundation announced the fourth run (and the last for 2018) of our grant initiative, The Healthy Paws Rescue Race, funded through our “Every Quote Gives Hope” program. Here’s how it works: six organizations are selected to participate and “race” to the finish line via votes on the site, and the winner is chosen based on the number of votes received. Organizations work hard to share on social media and encourage followers, supporters, and friends to get them the cash! Healthy Paws gave a grand total of $70,000, divided among the six nonprofits, and every organization received at least $5,000. Here are our four runners-up:
Ginger’s Pet Rescue – $12,500 Grant Recipient
Ginger’s Pet Rescue (GPR) takes in death row dogs from California and Texas as well as Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Mexico, and Iran. After 12 years, they have saved over 16,000 dogs. This grant will allow them to save more animals as well as provide food and vet care for pet parents fallen on hard times.
Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida – $10,000 Grant Recipient
Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida is a volunteer group that rehomes golden retrievers and mixed breed dogs that have lost their home or family. For 25 years, they have provided medical and foster care, adoptions and community education in Florida. The grant will be used for medical costs for incoming dogs and those currently in the sanctuary program. Jelly’s Place – $7,500 Grant Recipient
Jelly’s Place is a no-kill shelter that advocates for abandoned, abused, neglected, and injured urban dogs and cats. Run by volunteers, they provide adoption services and medical and food assistance to low-income pet parents. The grant will help fund veterinary care for the many animals that need help. Visit Jelly’s Place’s website to learn more about their life-saving work.
AlleyKattz Rescue – $5,000 Grant Recipient
AlleyKattz rescues cats that deserve a second chance through rehabilitation and adoption. All cats are fully vetted, and are provided with food and insulated housing. There are about 60 cats that live in colonies. The grant will help save more kitties and provide them with food and medical care. Visit AlleyKattz Rescue’s website to learn more about their life-saving work.

The funding for this grant program is made possible through the Healthy Paws Every Quote Gives Hope program, where every free quote for pet insurance results in a donation to help homeless pets.
