As Healthy Paws has committed to supporting the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary, we also want to spread the word about their organization. Created to honor the life of Catherine Violet Hubbard, the nonprofit focuses on her gentle spirit and mission of kindness (find out more about their organization here). Through local rescue support, outreach, adoption events and an expanding foster network, the Sanctuary is working to make a difference for animals and the people who care for them. Additionally, whether focused on bugs, birds, pets, farm animals, nature or the ecosystem, the Sanctuary also has developed educational programs that provide wonderful learning opportunities to help promote the care and nurture of creatures and the world where they live. They’ve educated over 10,000 kids on how to be stewards to animals and the environment they live in, and they’re still goin’ strong!

Here are the main educational programs at the Sanctuary:

Sunday at the Sanctuary:

Every month, the CVH Animal Sanctuary offers free workshops to all ages, allowing the community to engage in humane and nature-based education from experts in the field, so it’s perfect for the whole family. Whether exploring hidden life within stone walls, learning tips to save our butterflies and pollinators, or tracking the prints of our favorite wild animals, “Sunday at the Sanctuary” has something for everyone.  You can even meet adoptable animals from local rescues!

For a complete list of upcoming workshops, please visit their event page.

In School Programming:

The CVH Animal Sanctuary is proud to announce a partnership with the Newtown Public School System to provide Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programming to support the district’s transition to the Next Generation Science Standards. The in-school outreach programs are based upon the monthly “Sunday at the Sanctuary” program (above) themes and created to meet the specific curriculum needs of corresponding elementary and intermediate school grades. Future middle, and high school programs are also in the planning stages as well as expanding reach to other school districts.

Senior Programming:

Humane, nature-based programming is now expanding to senior centers and memory care facilities – bringing the outdoors to the ones who need it most! The Sanctuary believes that learning and compassion are as timeless as those who embrace it. Starting in 2018, the CVH Animal Sanctuary piloted a special workshop at Maplewood Senior Living in Bethel, CT. They counted the program a success as residents were fully engaged in investigating the wonders of nature without having to leave their facility. Future programs will follow.

The Healthy Paws Foundation was started in 2009 and it has helped hundreds of pet rescues and animal shelters by providing grants to help fund medicine, food, shelter, and operating costs. Through our Every Quote Gives Hope™ grant program, the foundation has donated over $700,000 to deserving shelters and rescues. Click to find out more on how we help homeless pets.
