How pet insurance works

How pet insurance
works

The Healthy Paws plan has no cap on per-incident, annual or lifetime claims. That means unlimited care for your pet, and less financial stress for you. If your pet needs treatment for a new accident or illness, and it’s not a pre-existing condition or otherwise excluded under the policy, your pet’s veterinary bills will be eligible for coverage.

  • 1 easy-to-understand pet insurance policy
  • No costly add-ons
  • Flexible premium and deductible options
  • Simple claim filing - most claims processed within 2 days

Pet parents also ask

Pet insurance can be beneficial in many situations. It can help pet parents avoid the heartbreaking decision of choosing between what they can afford and lifesaving treatment for their pet. Medical emergencies and injuries can happen to a pet at any age; getting pet insurance while your pet is young and healthy can help ensure that future ailments can be covered rather than risking being excluded as pre-existing conditions, subject to the policy’s terms and conditions.

Your pet insurance plan offers coverage for only the pet designated during enrollment. However, you can add an additional policy for any additional dog or cat for which you want coverage

As fellow pet parents, we understand this can be one of the hardest parts of pet ownership. The Healthy Paws plan can cover the costs of euthanasia when it is medically necessary for a covered condition. Expenses for aftercare, such as cremation or burial, are not eligible for coverage.

The benefit of having a pet insurance plan is the peace of mind in knowing that it can help cover the costs of medical treatment if your pet becomes ill or injured. It’s possible that veterinary treatments can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

The cost of your monthly pet insurance premium is based on several factors, including your pet’s age, where you live, and your pet’s breed. After getting a quote, you may be able to customize your rate by changing your annual deductible amount and your reimbursement percentage.

Reimbursements are based on your actual veterinary bills. Claims representatives determine the total of the covered treatments, if any, and multiply that by your reimbursement rate. They then subtract your remaining annual deductible.

For Illustrative Purposes only:

$1,200 Covered treatments
x 90% Your Reimbursement Level
$ 1,080
- $ 100 Remaining Annual Deductible
$ 980 Reimbursement Amount

Your pet's deductible is annual, meaning it must be satisfied only once per policy term and resets on the anniversary of your pet's policy.

We recommend that you research and compare your options. Healthy Paws offers one, easy-to-understand, pet insurance plan with no maximum limits on payout per claim, per year, or for the lifetime of the policy.

Your Healthy Paws policy does not cover wellness and preventative care. The plan is designed for unexpected veterinary care.

Some examples of preventative care include:

  • Vaccinations or titer testing, flea control, heartworm medication, de-worming, nail trims, spaying neutering and grooming
  • Parasite control
  • Routine dental healthcare including dental cleanings
  • Annual fecal and heartworm testing

Spaying and neutering are considered preventative care and is not covered.

You may use any licensed veterinarian in the United States or while traveling in Canada. This includes emergency vets and veterinary specialists.
