What does pet insurance cover?
Pet insurance is designed to cover the unexpected accidents and illnesses that you just can’t plan for, such as when the dog swallows something he shouldn’t, or the cat gets a urinary tract infection. With a Healthy Paws plan, you can be covered for your vet bills for these unexpected incidents. Coverage includes emergencies, hereditary or congenital conditions, cancer, and chronic conditions.
Can I use any vet?
You can visit any licensed veterinarian and your Healthy Paws plan will reimburse you based on your actual vet bill, as opposed to some plans that reimburse based on what they think the treatment for a specific condition should cost.
We offer one easy-to-understand pet health insurance plan that covers new accidents and illnesses including injuries, cancer, genetic conditions, alternative and emergency care.
Our commitment to our customers is to provide unparalleled service and support, and access to a great pet insurance plan. Our customers think highly of us and have given Healthy Paws the highest rating at Consumers Advocate, Canine Journal, and many more review sites.
Connect with a vet or vet tech 24/7 via the veterinary telehealth app. With Airvet, you can skip the stressful clinic visit for everyday concerns and get peace of mind when you need it most.
Our team of pet passionate claims adjusters work tirelessly to process most claims within two business days. Plus, submit your claims in just seconds by simply uploading a photo of the vet bill through our mobile app or online. It’s that easy!
Pre-existing conditions are not covered under our insurance policy. A pre-existing condition means that the condition first occurred or showed clinical signs or symptoms (there doesn't need to be a diagnosis) before your pet's coverage started. For specific coverage information, including waiting periods, please review your state-specific policy.
Preventive healthcare is not covered. This includes vaccinations or titer test, parasite/flea control, heartworm medication, de-worming, nail trim, grooming, anal gland expression, spaying and neutering and dental healthcare. However, when teeth are injured due to an accident, the plan does cover the cost of extraction and/or reconstruction of damaged teeth. Learn more about dental coverage.
Pre-existing cruciate ligament injuries are not covered, and if the cruciate ligament on one leg is injured prior to enrollment or during the 15-day waiting period, then the cruciate ligament on the other leg is excluded from coverage. This is the only bilateral exclusion in our policy. Treatment for cruciate ligament injuries is covered if it is not pre-existing.
The plan does not reimburse the costs, fees or expenses associated for elective procedures, boarding, behavioral modification, training, therapy or medications for behavioral modification. Please see the policy for more information on exclusions.
Examination fees are not covered under our insurance policy.
We don’t require a claim form for processing. You can simply submit your claim by taking a photo of your invoice and uploading it through our online Customer Center or the Healthy Paws mobile app.
If you prefer, you can also submit your invoice(s) and supporting medical documents to claims@healthypawspetinsurance.com

Yes. Healthy Paws accepts claims for any licensed vet in the U.S., including specialists and emergency animal hospitals.
How much is covered will depend on what coinsurance level and annual deductible you chose when you enrolled. Reimbursements are based on your actual veterinary bills. Claims representatives determine the total of the covered treatments, if any, and multiply that by your reimbursement rate. They then subtract your remaining annual deductible.
Yes. If you have submitted any claims, you can lower your reimbursement level and raise your deductible. This would result in a lower monthly premium.
If you haven’t submitted any claims, you can raise or lower your deductible and raise or lower your reimbursement level. A lower deductible and higher reimbursement level would result in lower out-of-pocket expenses and a higher reimbursement, and correspondingly, a higher monthly premium.
If you want to cancel your policy, you can let us know via regular mail, fax, email or verbally over the phone. Once the account is canceled, you will no longer have access to the online Customer Center. Learn more about canceling a Healthy Paws plan here.
