What does pet insurance cover?
Pet insurance is designed to cover the unexpected accidents and illnesses that you just can’t plan for, such as when the dog swallows something he shouldn’t, or the cat gets a urinary tract infection. With a Healthy Paws plan, you can be covered for your vet bills for these unexpected incidents. Coverage includes emergencies, hereditary or congenital conditions, cancer, and chronic conditions.
Can I use any vet?
You can visit any licensed veterinarian and your Healthy Paws plan will reimburse you based on your actual vet bill, as opposed to some plans that reimburse based on what they think the treatment for a specific condition should cost.
We offer one easy-to-understand pet insurance plan that covers new accidents and illnesses— including injuries, cancer, genetic conditions, alternative and emergency care. Customize your deductible, reimbursement percentage, and annual limit to find the right fit.
Our commitment to our customers is to provide unparalleled service and support, and access to a great pet insurance plan. Our customers think highly of us and have given Healthy Paws the highest rating at Consumers Advocate, Canine Journal, and many more review sites.
Connect with a vet or vet tech 24/7 via the app. With Airvet, you can skip the stressful clinic visit for everyday concerns and get peace of mind when you need it most.
Our team of pet passionate claims adjusters work tirelessly to process most claims within two business days. Plus, submit your claims in just seconds by simply uploading a photo of the vet bill through our mobile app or online. It’s that easy!
Pre-existing conditions are not covered under our insurance policy. A pre-existing condition means that the condition first occurred or showed clinical signs or symptoms (there doesn't need to be a diagnosis) before your pet's coverage started. However, curable conditions that fully resolve and remain symptom- and treatment-free for a continuous period of 365 days may be eligible for coverage. For specific coverage information, including waiting periods, please review your state-specific policy.
Preventive healthcare is not covered. This includes vaccinations or titer test, parasite/flea control, heartworm medication, de-worming, nail trim, grooming, anal gland expression, spaying and neutering and dental healthcare. However, when teeth are injured due to an accident, the plan does cover the cost of extraction and/or reconstruction of damaged teeth. Learn more about dental coverage.
Pre-existing cruciate ligament injuries are not covered, and if the cruciate ligament on one leg is injured prior to enrollment or during the 15-day waiting period, then the cruciate ligament on the other leg is excluded from coverage. This is the only bilateral exclusion in our policy. Treatment for cruciate ligament injuries is covered if it is not pre-existing.
The plan does not reimburse the costs, fees or expenses associated for elective procedures, boarding, behavioral modification, training, therapy or medications for behavioral modification. Please see the policy for more information on exclusions.
Examination fees are not covered under our insurance policy.
No forms are necessary! You can simply submit your claim by taking a photo of your invoice and uploading it through our online Customer Center or Healthy Paws Mobile App.
The claim must be submitted within 90 days of the invoice date.
You may use any licensed veterinarian in the United States or while traveling in Canada. This includes emergency vets and veterinary specialists.
How much is covered will depend on what reimbursement percentage, annual deductible and annual limit (maximum annual payout) you chose when you enrolled. Reimbursements are based on your actual veterinary bills. Claims representatives determine the total of the covered treatments, if any, and multiply that by your reimbursement rate. They then subtract your remaining annual deductible.
If you selected a plan with an annual limit, Healthy Paws would continue to reimburse your approved claims until that limit is reached for each policy term (12 months).
For example: if your policy has an annual limit of $7,000, your pet's claims for the policy term will be reimbursed – up to a total of $7,000 of reimbursements paid back to you.
After that, you would be responsible for veterinary costs beyond the annual limit.
Your annual limit resets each year on the anniversary of your pet’s enrollment, so that you are entitled to up to $7,000 of reimbursements for every policy term.
If you would like to decrease the cost of your monthly premium, you may be able to lower your reimbursement level, increase your deductible, and/or decrease your annual policy limit (subject to the policy terms and conditions).
You can view your reimbursement, annual limit and deductible options in the Customer Center by clicking Pet Policies in the navigation.
If you want to cancel your policy, you can let us know via regular mail, fax, email or verbally over the phone. Once the account is canceled, you will no longer have access to the online Customer Center. Learn more about canceling a Healthy Paws plan.
