Frequently Asked Questions

If all this talk about coverage and claims has your head tilting to the side, don’t worry. We’ve rounded up answers to our customers’ most commonly-asked questions.

Pet insurance can be beneficial in many situations. It can help pet parents avoid the heartbreaking decision of choosing between what they can afford and lifesaving treatment for their pet. Medical emergencies and injuries can happen to a pet at any age; getting pet insurance while your pet is young and healthy can help ensure that future ailments can be covered rather than risking being excluded as pre-existing conditions, subject to the policy’s terms and conditions.

Reimbursements are based on your actual veterinary bills and the policy options you selected, including your reimbursement rate, annual deductible, and annual coverage limit.

For example:

Say you have a policy with a $250 annual deductible, an 80% reimbursement rate, and a $5,000 annual limit:

  • You get a vet bill for $1,200 in covered treatments
  • 80% of 1,200 = $960
  • $960 minus your $250 annual deductible = $710
  • You are reimbursed $710 for that bill, and have $4,290 left on your annual coverage limit

For your next bill, you would be reimbursed a full 80% for covered treatments, up to the $4,290 that remains on your annual limit. (Your pet's deductible is annual, meaning it must be satisfied only once per policy term and resets on the anniversary of your pet's enrollment.)

If a claim is approved, any reimbursement due will be issued on average within 2 business days – by mailed check or direct deposit (enroll in the Customer Center). You can also contact Healthy Paws to arrange to have your reimbursement paid directly to your vet before services are performed.
